Our section, although quiet in song, is passionate about contributing to the Pride of Minnesota. Under the Direction of Timothy Diem, Associate Director Mary Schneider, and Director Skeeter Burroughs, the University of Minnesota Marching Band carries on the tradition of excellence set forth in 1892 when the band was first established.
The University of Minnesota Flute and Piccolo section consists of 31 members. 20 of whom are veterans of the band and 11 rookies to the organization this 2007 season. We perform, along with the other members of the band, a Pregame and Halftime Show at every Gopher Football home game.
Where some Big 10 bands overlook high woodwinds altogether, the University of Minnesota embraces the musical diversity brought on by these upper register instruments. The University of Minnesota is unique in the fact that flutes outnumber piccolos in the section due to the fact that the home of the Gopher Football team is the Metrodome.
